Current Information:Enlisted-St Pauls Hazebrouck Communal Cemetery, France Between 5 June and 13th June 1916, 9th East Surrey of 72 Brigade, 24th Division were in the front line trenches at Wulverghem, in Belgium where they had to contend with regular shelling by the enemy and sustained a number of casualties, both wounded and killed. The 7th June was typical of this. Shortly after midday a number of shells fell on the positions held by 9th East Surrey, especially around Battle Axe Farm, wounding two men, one of whom was Alfred Prestage. He died from these wounds on 14th June. |
